Your Life Path is the most important number in Western numerology. It describes the road you travel, the lessons you meet and the person you are growing into.
Enter your date of birth. You also get your Birth Day and Attitude Numbers.
Example shown: born 23 July 1990. Enter any date to calculate your own.
Month 7 · day 23 → 5 · year 1990 → 19 → 10 → 1. Each part is reduced on its own, keeping 11, 22 and 33.
Your path is about building something solid. You grow through order, hard work and patience. The lesson is to stay flexible, because rigid plans can hold you back as much as they protect you.
Vedic view: Destiny Number 4 (Rahu) →
You were born with adaptability and curiosity: a gift for thinking on your feet.
People first meet someone sociable, warm and lively.
Karmic debt 13 (reduces to 4): a lesson about work. Shortcuts tend to fail, and steady, focused effort is the way through.

The Life Path Number comes from your full date of birth. In the Pythagorean numerology used in Europe and America it is treated as the core of the chart: the main theme of your life, the strengths you can rely on and the challenges that keep returning until you learn from them.
Because your date of birth never changes, your Life Path never changes either. Numerologists describe it as the road, not the traveller. Your name numbers show the tools you bring, and the Life Path shows the ground you will cover with them.
For example, for 23 July 1990 the month is 7, the day is 2 + 3 = 5 and the year is 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10 and 1 + 0 = 1. Adding the parts gives 7 + 5 + 1 = 13, and 1 + 3 = 4. The Life Path is 4, written 13/4 because the total passes through the karmic debt number 13.
Reducing the parts separately is the method taught by most modern numerologists. It matters because it lets master numbers appear in the month, day or year. Adding every digit in one long string always gives the same single digit, but it can hide a master number or a karmic debt.
In Vedic numerology the sum of the full date of birth is called the Bhagyank, or Destiny Number. It uses the same digits as the Life Path, so the two always share the same root: a Life Path of 11 is a Destiny Number of 2, and a Life Path of 13/4 is a Destiny Number of 4.
The difference is in how they are read. The Vedic system always reduces to a single digit and links it to a ruling planet, from the Sun for 1 to Mars for 9. The Pythagorean system keeps master numbers and karmic debt, and reads the number as a psychological theme. Reading both gives you two views of the same date.
Each Life Path describes a direction, not a fixed fate. The descriptions below cover the nine single digits and the three master numbers.
Your path is about learning to stand on your own. You grow by starting things, trusting your judgment and leading rather than waiting for permission. The lesson is to stay independent without becoming isolated or stubborn.
Your path is about cooperation, sensitivity and partnership. You grow by listening, mediating and noticing what others miss. The lesson is to value your quiet influence and not lose yourself in pleasing others.
Your path is about self-expression and joy. You grow by speaking, writing, performing and creating. The lesson is to focus your many talents instead of scattering them.
Your path is about building something solid. You grow through order, hard work and patience. The lesson is to stay flexible, because rigid plans can hold you back as much as they protect you.
Your path is about freedom and change. You grow through travel, variety and new experience. The lesson is to use freedom constructively and not to run from commitment.
Your path is about love, responsibility and service. You grow by caring for family, community and beauty. The lesson is to help without controlling and to accept that others choose their own way.
Your path is about understanding. You grow through study, reflection and inner work. The lesson is to trust and open up, because wisdom is meant to be shared.
Your path is about power, achievement and material mastery. You grow by taking authority and handling money and responsibility well. The lesson is to balance ambition with integrity and generosity.
Your path is about compassion and completion. You grow by serving a cause larger than yourself. The lesson is to let go gracefully and give without expecting return.
Your path carries the 2’s sensitivity at a higher voltage. You grow by trusting intuition and inspiring others. The lesson is to manage nervous tension and turn vision into something practical.
Your path joins the 4’s practicality to great vision. You grow by building things that serve many people. The lesson is to face the size of your potential without freezing under pressure.
Your path raises the 6’s love into service on a large scale. You grow by healing, teaching and caring selflessly. The lesson is to care for yourself as well as others.
Three totals are not reduced: 11, 22 and 33. They are called master numbers. They carry the qualities of their root digit at a higher intensity, with bigger potential and more pressure.
Four totals are read as karmic debt when they appear before the final reduction: 13, 14, 16 and 19. They are not bad luck. Numerologists read them as lessons carried over from past patterns, which become strengths once they are faced.
Your Birth Day Number is simply the day of the month you were born, reduced if needed. It describes one specific talent that helps you on your Life Path. Someone born on the 23rd has a Birth Day Number of 5: adaptability and quick thinking.
Your Attitude Number is your birth month plus your birth day, reduced. It describes your first reaction to events and the first impression you make on others. It is the number people meet before they get to know you, so it can be quite different from your Life Path.

On this site the Destiny Number is the Vedic number from your full date of birth, which uses the same digits and always has the same root as the Life Path. Some Western books use “Destiny Number” for the Expression Number instead, which comes from your name. Always check which system an author is using.
The Pythagorean Life Path keeps the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. The Vedic Destiny Number always reduces to one digit, so 11 becomes 2. Both describe the same root energy.
